Eli Roth’s slasher Thanksgiving introduced the world to masked killer John Carver last year, nearly 20 years after the concept was originally teased with a faux trailer as part of the Grindhouse double feature experience. We won’t have to wait quite as long for more of Roth’s Thanksgiving, with Sony’s TriStar recently announcing that Thanksgiving 2 is coming in 2025.

Eli Roth and Jeff Rendell are back to write the screenplay for the upcoming slasher sequel, and Roth provides a fresh update on Thanksgiving 2 in a new chat with Indiewire.

For starters, the website notes that the sequel is in “soft prep” at the time of their article being published, “with plans to start shooting [Thanksgiving 2] at the end of March [2025].”

Roth teases, “We’re upping the ante but we are not going to do it with more money. That keeps it tight and lean and mean and forces us to make decisions. There’s a lot of setting up that we did in the first one that we don’t have to deal with now. It can just be all pay-off.”

“I’ve come up with stuff that is going to be a challenge,” Roth adds. “And I want it to be a challenge to pull off. Because if I’ve come up with the stuff that I think will make the best kills, then I’m going to do it like I’m never going to make another movie again.”

So what can we expect from Thanksgiving 2? It’s reportedly going to be a continuation of the first movie, with both Nell Verlaque and Rick Hoffman expected to reprise their roles. Verlaque played final girl Jessica, while Hoffman played her character’s father, Thomas Wright.

Stay tuned for more on the upcoming holiday horror sequel as we learn it.

In Thanksgiving, “After a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy, a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer terrorizes Plymouth, Massachusetts – the birthplace of the infamous holiday.”

The cast for this year’s feature length slasher movie includes Patrick Dempsey, Addison Rae, Jalen Thomas Brooks (“Walker”), Milo Manheim (Zombies), Nell Verlaque (“Big Shot”), Gina Gershon (“Chucky”), Tim Dillon and Rick Hoffman (Hostel).
