Ryan Joseph is an American cinematographer and producer. Since birth, Ryan was always a creative kid. He played piano and drums throughout his youth and took drawing/painting lessons for a few years. Like many filmmakers, watching movies at home and in the theater heavily inspired something within Ryan. Most notably, Star Wars and Indiana Jones were films that sparked a massive interest in the art form, and Ryan needed to learn as much as he could about it all. At the age of about 10, his father gifted him a Canon FV30 camcorder to play with. He was fascinated by how it was able to capture life and then play it back in front of his eyes instantly. Practically every day from that point on, he was in the backyard with his brother, filming themselves running around and subconsciously learning the foundation of filmmaking. Upon entering high school, Ryan took film as literature and a video production class where he took on many assignments most wouldn't even touch until college. Throughout that time, Ryan created dozens of shorts, recreations, and other experimental projects to understand and grasp each layer of filmmaking - from pre-production to post-production. Finishing his high school career by premiering a short zombie film he made for one of his classes and selling out the 50-seat theater at the school.
In November 2019, Ryan quit his day job working at Best Buy as a 'Sony Experience Expert.' Just a few months later, the world was hit by the unprecedented event of 'Covid-19' in early 2020, reshaping the landscape of film production and challenging Ryan to adapt and navigate through uncertain times. Ryan and his brother, Nathan, decided to reach out and message artists, rappers, and musicians to see if they could book some music videos during this time. It worked. Over the following year, Ryan produced, shot, and edited over 100 music videos. That fast-tracked his experience and got him wanting to make bigger and better films on every project.
Since then, Ryan has climbed up the ladder to learn the ropes, working as a grip and 1AC on commercials, a camera operator for events and features, and helmed the role of Director of Photography for multiple short films, TV pilots, documentaries, and more. Ryan now works exclusively as a Cinematographer and Producer.
As of 2024, Ryan has successfully launched his production company, 5ECHOS LLC, dedicated to creating captivating short-form visual content for artists and brands. In the initial months alone, he demonstrated his skill by producing a compelling documentary for the Southern Indian Health Council, crafting four engaging music videos, including one for the up-and-coming artist, WesGhost, and preparing the much-anticipated short film 'The Sounds She Knows' to be released later that year. Looking ahead, Ryan remains committed to pushing the boundaries of cinematic storytelling and contributing his unique vision to the world of filmmaking.
He is the oldest of three children. His parents, both American, lived in San Diego most of their lives.
