Jennifer Love Hewitt will return as ’90s slasher heroine Julie James in this year’s I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel from Sony, and director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) has taken to Instagram this week to tease Julie’s comeback.

Kaytin Robinson shared a behind the scenes photo from the set of the new I Know What You Did Last Summer movie, showing off a piece of mail received by Love Hewitt’s Julie James.

We have a good feeling what the message inside the envelope may be…

The ’90s slasher franchise will return to theaters on July 18, 2025.

Freddie Prinze Jr. will also reprise his role from the original two I Know What You Did Last Summer movies, 27 years after the release of I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

Plot details haven’t been revealed as of yet, but the original film follows four young friends who are separated by a tragic accident but reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town. Stay tuned for more on the sequel.

Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq WithersJonah Haur-King, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, and Gabbriette will be among the fresh faces joining the franchise’s legacy cast members.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) is set to direct the new installment in the franchise for Sony, with Leah McKendrick (M.F.A.) writing the original draft of the screenplay.

Jim Gillespie directed the original 1997 slasher, I Know What You Did Last Summer, which was written by Kevin Williamson (Scream) and based on Lois Duncan’s novel.
