Timo Tjahjanto to Helm Jason Statham Action Sequel ‘The Beekeeper 2’

Miramax and The Meg action hero Jason Statham are officially reteaming on the action sequel The Beekeeper 2. What’s more exciting is that, per Deadline, The Shadow Strays and Nobody 2 filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto has been set to direct.
Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the first film, is back to pen the screenplay. Production is set to begin this fall.
No sequel plot details as of yet, but The Beekeeper followed “a retired clandestine human intelligence operative who sets out for revenge after his kind-hearted landlady becomes the victim of a phishing scam that steals millions of dollars from a charity she runs.”
The first film became a $152.7M global hit when released in theaters last January. David Ayer (Suicide Squad) helmed the 2024 release, and the studio aims to bring the filmmaker back for the sequel in producing capacity.
While we wait for The Beekeeper 2, Tjahjanto’s latest film, Nobody 2, is set to arrive in theaters on August 15. Bob Odenkirk returns for more explosive action as Hutch Mansell, the former assassin turned suburban dad whose violent past returns.
The filmmaker is also behind action hits The Night Comes for Us and Headshot, as well as horror movies May the Devil Take You, its sequel, V/H/S/2, and V/H/S/94. As for Miramax, production is set to begin soon on the new Scary Movie, being released via Paramount, with the Wayans Brothers.
