‘Whalefall’ – Austin Abrams Starring in Survival Movie About a Man Swallowed by a Whale

Armed with one of the wildest concepts we’ve come across in recent years, Daniel Kraus’ novel Whalefall is sure to make for one hell of a must-watch movie, and Deadline reports today that the movie adaptation has found its lead star in Austin Abrams (Wolfs).

Brian Duffield (Love and Monsters, No One Will Save You) is directing the 20th Century Studios movie adaptation of Kraus’ novel, with Duffield and Kraus co-writing the script.

The book is described as The Martian meets 127 Hours.

The storyline follows “a scuba diver in search of his deceased father’s remains who gets swallowed by an 80-foot, 60-ton sperm whale and has only one hour to escape before his oxygen runs out. It’s a tale about a young man who has given up on life — only to find a reason to live in the most dangerous and unlikely of places.”

Brian Grazer, Ron Howard, and Allan Mandelbaum produce for Imagine Entertainment.

One of Austin Abrams’ earliest roles saw him playing Ron Anderson in nine episodes of “The Walking Dead,” later appearing in both Tragedy Girls and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.

He’ll also be seen in Zach Cregger’s upcoming genre movie Weapons.
