The psychological thriller is Zeke Goodman, who starred in Prime’s short-lived “I Know What You Did Last Summer” series.
Set in turn-of-the-millennium Southern California, the story follows an alienated young man who comes under the influence of a motivational guru, whose intoxicating charm masks his morally questionable methods of manipulation and his own concealed darkness.
The search for a director and a lead actor are underway.
A24 will produce alongside Johnson and Dany Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Rampage) and Stacey Sher’s Shiny Penny Productions (Heretic), with Jacob Epstein and Justin Wolf executive producing via Lighthouse Management & Media.
Breakthrough will mark Johnson’s second collaboration with A24 following the MMA drama The Smashing Machine, opening in theaters on October 3.
