We know that Godzilla Minus One writer-director Takashi Yamazaki is developing a follow-up for as soon as next year, but that’s not the only Godzilla film on the table in Japan.
Toho International president Koji Ueda revealed to Bloomberg that there is still potential for a sequel to Shin Godzilla.
A new 4K restoration of the 2016 film is set to stomp into North American theaters on August 14 from Gkids. Perhaps a strong box office showing could help encourage Toho to move forward with another installment in addition to the Minus One follow-up.
Co-directed by Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and Shinji Higuchi (Attack on Titan), Shin Godzilla stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Yutaka Takenouchi, and Satomi Ishihara.
