Zach Cregger made a huge splash on the horror scene back in 2022 with his first original horror movie Barbarian, a film that scared up $10.5 million in its domestic debut and went on to make $45 million at the worldwide box office. Released into 3,202 theaters by Warner Bros. over the weekend, Cregger’s Weapons debuted to $42.5 million in the United States and a massive $70 million at the worldwide box office!
Weapons was number 1 at the U.S. box office for the weekend, with the film earning the third highest grossing opening weekend for the horror genre this year so far. Only Final Destination Bloodlines ($51.6 million) and Sinners ($48 million) had higher openings, and those two movies went on to earn $285 million and $365 million at the global box office, respectively.
The budget for Weapons was a reported $38 million, with Warner Bros. betting big time on Zach Cregger’s post-Barbarian career as a budding master of the genre. It’s a gamble that is definitely going to pay off for the studio, with Weapons well on its way to profitability.
