A24 has come out on top of a competitive bidding war for The Undertone, securing worldwide rights to the debut feature from Toronto-based writer/director Ian Tuason.

Per Deadline, who reported the news earlier today, a deal was made for 7 figures with A24 beating six other buyers to the hot horror title that's been recommended for fans of Skinamarink and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives In The House.

Starring Nina Kiri (The Handmaid's Tale),The Undertone follows Evy, a paranormal podcast host who returns home to care for her dying mother. Thereafter, she begins receiving recordings from a married couple plagued by strange noises in their house, pulling her into a spiral of fear and paranoia.

The Undertone had its premiere at Fantasia Film Festival earlier this year, where programming director Carolyn Mauricette called it a “slow-burn nightmare that will make hackles on your neck rise and your blood chill.”

Per Deadline, The Undertone was produced by Dan Slater for Slaterverse Pictures and Cody Calahan for Black Fawn Films. Exec producers include Steven Schneider and Roy Lee (It, Weapons) for Spooky Pictures, Chad Archibald for Black Fawn Films, Brit MacRae and Daril Fannin for Kino Studios, and DimensionGate.

Look out for more on The Undertone as we get it!
