You Have A Right To See THE TOXIC AVENGER’s Dong
It’s no secret that we here at Fango are excited for the big-screen release of Macon Blair’s The Toxic Avenger. The reboot is scheduled to hit screens on August 29th, but there’s a girthy bump in the road.
Seems the version of the film we saw at Fantastic Fest two years ago wasn’t the full unrated cut. The difference? In the film, ol’ Toxie finds it necessary to use his corrosive piss to free himself from a villain’s confinements. And I guess the Fantastic Fest cut took the discreet route, because the uncut version goes the Full Toxic Monty.
It’s been a rallying cry for a while now: onscreen nudity should be equal opportunity! But apparently Toxie’s dong is too much for mainstream theater chains, whom Bloody Disgusting claims are “balking at the idea of showing the full Unrated cut.”
Is that true? Who knows? Do we care if it’s true? Not really. This movie has glowing Troma blood in its veins; a little hucksterism is not only expected, but anticipated. And as someone who once got hate mail for showing an exploded set of testicles in a full-page photograph in Fango, I support this showmanship.
