After a switch-up that saw its leading lady replaced and A24 drop out, the film adaptation of Virginia Feito’s novel Victorian Psycho has finally landed a new distributor. Deadline reports that Bleecker Street has picked up the film starring Maika Monroe as the titular psychopath, with plans to release the film domestically sometime next year.

Also starring Thomasin McKenzie and Jason Isaacs, Victorian Psycho is adapted for the screen by Feito herself, with Zachary Wigon set to direct. Monroe leads the film as a young woman who, when she joins the staff of a remote, Gothic manor, raises concerns with the owners when staff members inexplicably begin to disappear. This was the role originally occupied by Margaret Qualley, who departed the project alongside A24.

Production on the film is set to begin this week in Ireland, though no casting has been announced for who will play Mrs. Pounds, the stern matron of the manor, not her children, who Winifred finds herself in charge of despite her lack of ability to care for them.

“We are proud to partner with this incredible creative team on Victorian Psycho. Zach’s vision is thrilling, and we know every frame will be shocking, unique, and for lack of a better word, cutting,” Kent Sanderson, CEO at Bleecker Street told Deadline. “Backing this film continues Bleecker’s mandate of supporting exciting voices and bringing entertaining, impactful films from across all genres to theaters.”

No exact release date has been set for Victorian Psycho, but stay tuned to FANGORIA for more updates.
