The clip certainly paints a picture, albeit a chaotic one. We see the writer at the center of it all, played by How to Get Away with Murder star Jack Falahee, doing what he does best; writing. After coming down with a bit of writer’s block, he finds a way around it. But as the clip suggests, his writing comes with deadly consequences in the aftermath of this mysterious solution. While the specifics remain a bit elusive, the film’s official synopsis reads as follows:
“A former successful horror fiction writer (Jack Falahee) overcomes writer's block after experiencing a mysterious event. However, his renewed creativity comes at a dark price, as he becomes entangled in a sinister cycle of creation and consequence.”
In addition to the above clip we also have two first-look images, which you can check out below. The cast is led by Falahee alongside Oscar-nominee Jackie Earle Haley (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Chris Noth (Sex and the City) and newcomer Saphira Moran. Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier) Thomas G. Waites (6:45), Armen Garo (6:45), Gabrielle Lee (Chicago P.D.) and Elias Koteas (Chicago P.D.) also star.
Robert Dean Klein (6:45, Dark Ride) penned the screenplay, marking the writer’s fifth collaboration overall with Singer. The film hails from Three 777 Film, Inc. and Cascrator Films. Maria Jorjezian and Gigi A. Boyle are on board as co-producers, with Falahee serving as an executive producer. Though specific distribution plans have not been announced, it has been confirmed that the film will be coming to theaters later this year.
“The question of what an artist is willing to do or how far he’s willing to go to realize his vision is always something that fascinated me,” Singer previously said to Deadline. “The Block gave me an opportunity to explore that very topic in a deeply psychological, personal and meaningful way.”
The Block does not currently have a release date but stay tuned. For more, check out the new trailer for Shudder’s slasher Night of the Reaper.
