Ahead of a full lineup dropping later this week, Los Angeles' Beyond Fest has announced, in partnership with the American Cinematheque, Está Vivo: The Gods and Monsters of Guillermo del Toro, a 12-feature retrospective celebrating 30 years of Academy Award winning genre legend Guillermo del Toro.

The man himself will also join for four specially curated blocks of programming (read on for more on that), sharing with audiences his personal stories, dreams and nightmares that have come with a life behind the lens. The series will explore themes of monsters, humanity and imagination, in anticipation for del Toro's upcoming Frankenstein.

Evrim Ersoy, Head of Programming at Beyond Fest, had the following to say about the upcoming event:

“Guillermo del Toro’s films have inspired generations of filmmakers and audiences alike in a way unlike any other artist we’ve experienced […] To welcome him and celebrate his artistic vision on this scale truly honors who he is as both a creative force of nature and a proudly obsessive servant of Cinema.”

The celebration opens with “In The Mood For Love”, a triple bill exploring the emotional core of del Toro’s works, with Gothic horror Crimson Peak, Best Picture winner The Shape of Water and del Toro's personally supervised brand-new version of Nightmare Alley: Vision in Darkness and Light.

From “Sketch to Screen” block will explore del Toro's lifelong passion for comic books with screenings of Hellboy, Hellboy II: The Golden Army and Blade II, while the “Early Years” block will celebrate del Toro's foundational works with 4K restorations of Cronos and The Devil's Backbone, plus a director's cut of Mimic.

Finally, Está Vivo will wrap up with “The Revolution”, an entire evening dedicated to the internationally acclaimed fantasy horror Pan's Labyrinth, with del Toro appearing for a pre-screening Q&A.

Tickets for Está Vivo: The Gods and Monsters of Guillermo del Toro, which runs from September 23 to October 6, will be on sale on the American Cinematheque website Thursday, September 4th at 12:00 pm PST. Visit beyondfest.com and americancinematheque.com for further info.
