Ahead of its World Premiere at Fantastic Fest later this month and wide release on October 17, Scott Derrickson's Black Phone 2 dials up a creepy new trailer that makes good on that promise of The Grabber returning in a Freddy Krueger-like capacity.

Black Phone 2 sees the return of stars Ethan Hawke as said masked child killer, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora, with new cast additions Demián Bichir and Arianna Rivas. Returning for script duties is frequent Derrickson collaborator C. Robert Cargill (Sinister), with Joe Hill, author of the original short story that 2021's The Black Phone was based on, executive producing. Cargill and Derrickson also produce, along with Blumhouse's Jason Blum.

In the sequel to The Black Phone:

As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake.

Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history. Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.

Today's new trailer teases more of Derrickson's incredibly creepy use of the Super 8 footage seen in both Sinister and Dreamkill, while also showcasing some gore that proves Black Phone 2 is not sparing anyone in this movie, especially not the kids. There's also a horrible (complimentary) homage to the 1983 Canadian slasher Curtains, which you'll recognize as soon as you see it.
