Go Behind The Scenes Of THE LONG WALK In Our Exclusive Featurette

Making a film like The Long Walk, which focuses primarily on a group of people walking in an endless line, seems to the layman that it would be a fairly straightforward process, but that’s not the case. Like all horror films, it has layers, and FANGORIA is excited to premiere an exclusive behind the scenes featurette from the making of the film, which stars Mark Hamill, David Jonsson, Judy Greer, Cooper Hoffman, Ben Wang, and Garrett Wareing.
Our clip brings together director Francis Lawrence (known for his work on the Hunger Games film), producer Roy Lee, and screenwriter JT Mollner to discuss how the film came to be. Lawrence reveals that he’d been interested in adapting the film since his work on I Am Legend in 2007, when writer Akiva Goldsmith introduced the book to him, and it took nearly two decades of waiting for the rights to become available again.
Lee was the one to receive the call from Stephen King’s agents about the book’s rights, and he was the one to contact Mollner, who had just finished making Strange Darling and knew he didn’t want to direct anything for a while. Lawrence says that he was thrilled at the idea of working with someone who always knew how to put themselves in the mind of a director, and thus, The Long Walk was born.
The Long Walk, also starring Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, and Josh Hamilton, is directed by Lawrence, following a group of young men in a dystopian United states who enter in an annual walking contest. Forced to maintain a speed of at least three miles an hour or risk execution, the contest ends only when one walker remains alive. It’s one of numerous King adaptations to hit theaters this year, including Mike Flanagan’s The Life of Chuck and Edgar Wright’s forthcoming The Running Man film.
The Long Walk is playing in theaters now. Check out our exclusive BTS clip below:
