Macon Blair's The Toxic Avenger  has wrapped up its fundraising theatrical run, with today bringing the amazing news that the partnership between Cineverse and Undue Medical Debt raised not only $5 million but in fact tripled that goal, officially wiping out $15 million of medical debt for over 10,000 people.

From August 29, Cineverse and Undue Medical Debt, a national nonprofit dedicated to helping families least able to pay burdensome healthcare debt, matched every million dollars The Toxic Avenger made at the box office, with a promise to erase $5 million no matter what. Meeting a $15 million goal means that 3x the number of lives have been transformed with the elimination of the debt, proving that communities, and horror fans especially, built around storytelling can be a force for real-world good.

In the long-awaited Troma reboot The Toxic Avenger, Peter Dinklage stars as Winston Gooze, a downtrodden janitor who, before transforming into the Toxie we all know and love, is given a terminal diagnosis, the treatment for which his medical insurance, bestowed by a greedy megacorp  helmed by Kevin Bacon's Bob Garbinger, doesn't cover.

The fight doesn't end here though – Toxie fans can carry on spreading the oozy goodness by continuing to donate to Undue Medical Debt and help more families free themselves from crushing bills.
