New IN SEARCH OF DARKNESS: 1995-1999 Trailer Dives Into Horror’s Most Meta Scares

In Search of Darkness has finally arrived at the meta era of late ‘90s filmmaking, and they’ve just revealed a new trailer for the latest installment in the popular horror documentary series. In Search of Darkness: 1995-1999 is open for pre-orders now, and there’s something for everyone in this one, whether you prefer traditional scares or more inventive ones.
As the title makes obvious, the documentary will cover the making of the iconic horror films of the back half of the ‘90s, including but not limited to Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Craft, Bride of Chucky, The Sixth Sense, Ring, and The Blair Witch Project. As with the other installments of In Search of Darkness, the new late ‘90s edition will feature interviews and commentary from some of the most recognizable faces in the genre, including John Carpenter, Doug Bradley, Mike Flanagan, Paul W.S. Anderson, C. Robert Cargill, Corbin Bernsen, Marco Beltrami, and many more.
“Perception about horror output in the '90s is uniquely selective,” says writer-director David Weiner. “Like fast-forwarding a movie to when things start to get exciting, many feel like the film selection really didn't start killing it until Scream arrived in '96, kick-starting a fever-pitch of big, glossy, Hollywood teen-driven slashers and meta-fueled tales that hit new highs at the box office.
