Brooklyn Horror Film Festival Celebrates 10 Years With Deadly Events Lineup

Brooklyn Horror Film Festival is just around the corner, and in addition to their extensive list of film screenings, the New York City festival is also rolling out the red carpet for plenty of in-person events. The festival, which begins on October 16, has just announced their special events lineup for their tenth anniversary celebration, encompassing everything from live demonstrations to parties and podcast recordings.
This Thursday, the festival’s opening night kicks off with their Opening Night Zombie Bash, sponsored by IFC and Shudder and featuring DJ Sara Jabarri, running from 10:30PM at the Nitehawk Cinema in Williamsburg, where the festival’s screenings will also take place. Friday night will also be host to a major party, with DJ Nuclear Volcano spinning tracks at Nitehawk’s Lo-Res, featuring drinks, dancing, and mayhem.
If festivalgoers aren’t too hungover the next day, they can head to the Busmobile outside Nitehawk on Saturday, October 18 to donate blood as a part of the festival’s partnership with the New York Blood Center. Walk-up donations will be available from 1-7PM, though appointments are preferred, and can be booked on the NYBC’s website. After that, folks can head to the festival’s Artists and Artisan’s market, which runs from 12-5PM on October 18 and 19 at pinkFROG Cafe, featuring an extensive lineup of spooky artists with plenty of goodies for sale.
There’s also something in store for the avid podcast listeners attending this year’s event. The Certified Forgotten podcast, hosted by Matt Donato and Matt Monagle, will be recording a special live episode on October 18 at 2PM, featuring special guest Tina Romero, at Crystal Lake Brooklyn, and the Blerdy Massacre podcast, featuring Sharai the Slayer and FANGORIA’s own Xero Gravity, will be recording an episode featuring Ernest Dickerson in the same location on October 19 at 2PM.
Dead Letter No. 9 will be hosting a live zombie special effects makeup tutorial by Jackie Hughes on October 19 at 4PM, followed by The Rocky Horror Personality Test at 5:30, an interactive floor show hosted by Alison Foreman that teaches audiences the history of the infamous midnight movie. But the events aren’t over once the first weekend wraps up — director Ted Geoghegan and FANGORIA’s Michael Gingold will be hosting Final Exam Horror Trivia at Radegast Hall & Biergarten on October 20 at 7PM, presented by Dark Sky Films.
Brooklyn Horror Film Festival is also hosting numerous panels this year, including Raising and Praising the Dead, a discussion of underappreciated films featuring authors Lowell Greenblatt, Mary Beth McAndrews, Michael Gingold, and Payton McCarty-Simas, moderated by Avery Coffey. The event takes place at The Twisted Spine on October 22 at 5PM, and will also feature a book signing.
Finally, in amongst the many parties, mixers, and panels, Dark Sky Films is sponsoring BHFF’s closing night Halloween Party on October 25, hosted at Nighthawk’s Lo-Res from 9PM. Costumes are highly encouraged to celebrate the spookiest time of the year!
Brooklyn Horror Film Festival runs from October 16-25. More information about this year’s festival is available on their website.
