The Hand That Rocks The Cradle remake further proves that we are in the midst of an erotic thriller renaissance (See also: Bone Lake). Director Michelle Garza Cervera's remake stars Maika Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who join us to discuss how the remake addresses our perception of mental health, the grey areas in “defining” a villain, their most iconic roles, and the resurgence of the erotic thriller (hell yeah).
Monroe plays a new nanny who moves in with Winstead and family, and what starts out as a welcome addition to the family, of course, delves into full-blown domestic horror. Watching Monroe and Winstead play cat and mouse is enjoyable enough, but the ways in which they were both able to bring audience empathy into the equation for their respective characters adds another layer entirely.
