David Dastmalchian Shows Off His Fashionable Side In Exclusive METANOIA Images

It’s not often that horror spreads from the silver screen into other mediums, but when it does, the results are killer. The upcoming immersive art project Metanoia is doing just that — spanning across a short film, a photography series, and an upcoming immersive gallery installation — and FANGORIA is excited to exclusively premiere images from the project, highlighting the creativity of some of the genre’s finest artists.
Metanoia teams growing genre legend David Dastmalchian with fashion photographer Gina Manning, combining avant garde fashion with classic horror cinema for a story of chilling transformation. The project, led by its upcoming short film, explores “how someone becomes a monster, someone who doesn't fit the norm and how perhaps that is more beautiful than we've been told…that ability to let go of societal pressures of what you “should do,” and embracing who you are.” The film also features model and actress Sedona Legge, who crafted pieces of her own crystalline costume, alongside work from artists like cinematographer David Kruta and director Mike Pecci.
“With Metanoia we were excited to explore every technique, every idea that might normally be seen as too ambitious or too experimental for a standard photoshoot,” Manning said. “I wanted every frame to feel like you could touch it and at the core of the process was a commitment to doing everything practically.
“Sets were designed and built by hand, lighting rigs moved like dancers, nails were sculpted into tiny works of art, bodies transformed through practical manipulation, and even inviting a horror filmmaker to shoot a film alongside the photography. Los Angeles is full of world-class craftspeople whose jobs have been at risk in recent years. I wanted this project to celebrate them and prove that craft still has power.”
Metanoia has been making the festival circuit over the last few months, premiering at genre festivals like Beyond Fest to much acclaim. The short was also nominated for Best Cinematography and Best Macro Short at FilmQuest, and nominated for Best Actor and Best Set Design at the London Fashion Film Festival.
The film portion of Metanoia has not yet set a wide release date, but fans can sign up on Manning’s website to receive updates on the project as they arrive. Check out our exclusive images down below:
