Good news, Frankenfans – Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that, despite the film being a Netflix release, his Frankenstein will be be available to own on physical media in the future, and will include deleted scenes from the Gothic epic.

Over on his official Twitter account, del Toro teased the news of a physical media release by replying to a fan hoping to see a deleted scene from Frankenstein, which depicts Mia Goth's Elizabeth Harlander in the convent where she lives before marrying into the Frankenstein family. Further details have yet to be announced, but given the sheer amount of work that went into bringing del Toro's vision of Mary Shelley's classic sci-fi horror novel to life, we imagine the release will come stacked with special features, including that scene and many more.

Following a limited theatrical release, Netflix unleashed Frankenstein, which stars Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac and Christoph Waltz alongside scream queen Goth, on November 7. The monster horror topped the Netflix chart with over 60 million views in 10 days, with critics and audiences alike aligned on an excellent reception, and Fango's own Michael Gingold praising the film's “impeccable craft”.

While the streaming figures are hugely impressive, a physical media release for a Netflix-based film isn't always guaranteed, probably due to the streaming giant not wanting to jeopardize their own numbers. That Frankenstein should have one in the works is hugely exciting news, and serves further as proof of the great GDT's love of the game.

No news yet on when we can expect a Frankenstein DVD, Blu-ray or 4K UHD, but watch this space for updates. While you wait, read our list of all the monster movies we're excited for in 2026.
