Easily one of our most anticipated horror movies of 202628 Years Later: The Bone Temple gets a metal new trailer today ahead of hitting theaters on January 16 via Sony.

The follow-up to Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later is directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman), with Ralph Fiennes, Alfie Williams and Jack O'Connell returning to star as survivors of the Rage Virus that ravaged Britain almost three decades prior. Also returning is MMA fighter Chi Lewis-Parry, who plays a behemoth “Alpha” Infected known as Samson and Erin Kellyman as Jimmy Ink, who was seen briefly in the insane Teletubbies ninja showdown at the end of 28 Years Later.

An official logline for The Bone Temple, also written by 28 Days Later and 28 Years Later scribe Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation), reads:

In a continuation of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Fiennes) finds himself in a shocking new relationship – with consequences that could change the world as they know it – and Spike's (Williams) encounter with Jimmy Crystal (O'Connell) becomes a nightmare he can't escape. In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the greatest threat to survival – the inhumanity of the survivors can be stranger and more terrifying.

28 Days Later star Cillian Murphy executive produces, and will make a return to his role of bike courier Jim from the original 2002 film.

Most excitingly, however, today's new trailer gives us a much better look at O'Connell as the deranged Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal (in O'Connell's words, a “gas cunt“) as the leader of a gang of equally psychotic followers known as Jimmies.
