Heading into its third week of release, video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 continues to reign supreme over the horror box office, hitting a milestone over the weekend.
Director Emma Tammi’s sequel Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 just hit $201.8 million at the worldwide box office, with $108.9 million of that total being made here in the United States.
The film’s reported production budget was somewhere between $36-50 million, so it’s no doubt going to end up being massively profitable for Universal Pictures and Blumhouse.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 has also proven to be review-proof, much like the first movie. The current Rotten Tomatoes score is a rotten 16% from 120 reviews. The score from users on Rotten Tomatoes is much, much higher at 85%, suggesting that hardcore fans of the video game are enjoying the movie while movie critics are finding it to be a lump of holiday coal.
