While The Conjuring: Last Rites closed out the main film series, sending off Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, the Conjuring Universe isn’t over.
Warner Bros. has dated prequel film The Conjuring: First Communion for a September 10, 2027, release, just in time for the Halloween season.
Plot details remain under wraps at this time, of course, but the prequel comes from director Rodrigue Huart, from a script by Richard Naing & Ian Goldberg. It’s not certain if Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga’s Ed and Lorraine Warren are coming back, though it’s not likely. Deadline notes that Warner Bros had this September date in 2027 on hold previously.
Huart’s credits include the short films Transylvanie, Trigger, and Reel, and he also directed music videos for musicians GIMS and Yuzmv. Most recently, he directed a TV series titled “Le monde magique de Jérôme Commandeur.”
There are currently nine films in The Conjuring universe — The Conjuring, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Annabelle Comes Home, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, The Nun 2, and last year’s The Conjuring: Last Rites. Franchise producer Peter Safran previously said, “There’s so much more to it that we haven’t dug into. So the truth is, I think there are really exciting ways to go with both film and television, frankly. It would be incredibly satisfying. People have been on this journey with us for a dozen years now. I think they want more.”
A Conjuring Universe television series is also in the works.
