I’ve said it once, and I’ll continue to say it until my dying breath – Jurassic Park is a horror movie. Yes, it’s a blockbuster and thrilling adventure, but the dino DNA at its core is that of classic, Spielbergian terror. After last summer’s attempt at revitalizing the long-running franchise, Xfinity is introducing a “whole new species of Wi-fi” in its nostalgic Super Bowl LX Spot, aptly titled “Jurassic Park… Works.” Watch the Taika Waititi-directed spot below:
It’s a cute retread of iconic scenes, now rendered innocuous thanks to Xfinity keeping the park’s systems online. Sam Neil, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles as Dr. Alan Grant, Dr. Ellie Sattler, and Dr. Ian Malcom, cross-cut with archival footage from Spielberg’s 1993 masterpiece. Now that the park is working, Dr. Alan Grant remarks feeling 33 years younger. Cute.
The Super Bowl is always a cinephile’s dream. While the game itself may not be the primary draw, the advertisements and teasers for more than warrant checking into the game, even if the most noteworthy of the bunch (like Scream 7) premiere online in advance.
To echo Dr. Alan Grant’s sentiments, I’ll happily endorse this commercial.
