‘The Mist’ – Mike Flanagan Promises a “Different Direction” From the Frank Darabont Film
Mike Flanagan has taken to Bluesky to assure fans that his take on Stephen King’s ‘The Mist’ will not be a mere remake of the 2007 film.
It was announced earlier this month that Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep) will direct a new adaptation of Stephen King’s acclaimed 1980 novella, The Mist. Now, in a series of posts responding to fans via Bluesky, Flanagan is assuring us that his take won’t be a mere rehash.
“I love Darabont’s film, and there’s zero point in remaking it. Which is why I’m going in a different direction,” said Flanagan, adding that “The Mist is going to be great. If there wasn’t an excellent answer to ‘why’, I wouldn’t do it.”
And perhaps my favorite response? “FWIW, I got the same ‘but why’ comments for ‘The Haunting of Hill House’, ‘Bly Manor’, ‘House of Usher’, ‘Carrie’, The Exorcist, and even Ouija: Origin of Evil. Also got it for Life of Chuck. I’ve been lucky so far in my career to only take on projects I’m really excited about.”
We’re still waiting on plot details for Flanagan’s take on the story of a small town overtaken by a mist populated by horrific monsters. Keep an eye out for Flanagan’s other Stephen King adaptation, Carrie, coming to Prime Video later this year.
