That wave of social media nonsense claiming producer James Wan walked out of a test screening for Lee Cronin’s new take onThe Mummy is frustrating. Not only is it clearly untrue, but it’s also entirely subjective, especially when the trailer and now the first clip from the film both look fantastic. From my experience, that carries weight.
IGN shares the first scene from the movie in which the young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.
This scene picks up after she’s uncovered in the coffin. Appearing lifeless, the daughter suddenly jolts awake. It’s a solid jumpscare, and the makeup looks phenomenal.
Cronin had previously promised that it would “be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before.” Further adding: “I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening.”
Starring are Jack Reynor (Midsommar), Laia Costa (“The Wheel of Time”), May Calamawy (“Moon Knight”), Veronica Falcón (“Ozark”), May Elghety (Clash), Natalie Grace (“1923”), Shylo Molina (“The Afterparty”), and Billie Roy (Spirit Halloween: The Movie).
The Mummy will be unwrapped in theaters on April 17, 2026, from Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and New Line Cinema.
