Shudder and IFC have discovered the tapes pressed play on the red band trailer for Faces of Death, in theaters April 10.
The trailer for the reboot of John Alan Schwartz’s controversial 1978 pseudo-documentary is interesting because it canonizes the original Faces of Death tapes in an extremely interesting way. Also, the trailer is true to its red band name, delivering a whole bunch of nasty stuff, such as a nod to the OG Faces of Death when they cut open someone’s skull, exposing their brain. Yikes.
Directed by CAM‘s Daniel Goldhaber, the new Faces of Death is co-written by Isa Mazze and stars Barbie Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery, Josie Totah, Charli XCX, and Jermaine Fowler.
“Faces of Death continues the exploration of the original film’s infamous ‘Is it real or not?’ conceit, as a woman (Ferreira) working as a content moderator for a major video platform discovers what appears to be re-enactments of murders from the original film. In an online world where nothing can be trusted, she must determine whether the violence is fiction or unfolding in real time.”
Faces of Death is rated R for “strong bloody violence and gore, sexual content, nudity, language, and drug use.”
