Karyn Kusama is one of the most distinctive filmmakers working today, having put her stamp on projects ranging from the cult classic Jennifer’s Body to Æon Flux, XX, and the festival favorite The Invitation.
With a sharply defined style and voice, she is an ideal choice to bring the popular video game Life Is Strange to the small screen. She will be directing the first two episodes for Amazon Prime Video, according to Variety.
Kusama’s involvement comes shortly after it was reported that Maisy Stella and Tatum Grace Hopkinshave been cast as Chloe and Max, respectively.
“The show follows Max (Hopkins), a photography student, who discovers she can rewind time while saving the life of her childhood best friend, Chloe (Stella). As she struggles to understand this new skill, the pair investigate the mysterious disappearance of a fellow student, uncovering a dark side to their town that will ultimately force them to make an impossible life-or-death choice that will impact them forever.”
Karyn Kusama is a three-time Emmy nominee — once for her work as a director on the critically acclaimed Showtime series Yellowjackets and twice more for her contributions to the show’s outstanding drama series nominations.
She previously worked with Amazon as a director on The Man in the High Castle, Dead Ringers, and The Consultant, while also directing episodes of Billions and In Treatment.
In January, it was reported that Life is Strange: Reunion, the conclusion of Chloe and Max’s story, will launch on March 26 for Xbox Series X|S and PC.
