Following our initial casting news here, the liminal horror feature The Space Between will begin production this month in Wisconsin, Dread learned today.
The film stars Damian Maffei (The Strangers: Prey at Night, Haunt, Wrong Turn) as Rick, an overnight security guard working inside a once-bustling shopping mall after closing. Over the course of a single shift, his routine begins to fracture as something unseen retraces his every step.
Kate Kiddo (Black Eyed Susan, The Events Surrounding a Peeping Tom) joins the cast as Dispatch, Rick’s only point of contact during the night, a steady voice guiding him through his rounds as the system he relies on begins to break down.
Production will take place inside an operational Midwestern mall, utilizing real locations after hours to ground the film’s liminal, surveillance-driven psychological horror.
Written and directed by Joshua Garity, The Space Between explores observation and the quiet destabilization of routine.
“This is a film that turns Rick’s role as an observer against him,” said Garity. “The quiet environment he depends on begins to unravel into something he can no longer control.”
The project is supported in part by the Wisconsin Film Office, with production scheduled to begin in April.
The Space Between is targeting a Fall 2026 release.
