This Friday, Neon releases its critically acclaimed Japanese liminal horror film, Exit 8.
In fact, Josh Korngut raved in his review, calling Exit 8, “the best video game adaptation ever made.” He’s also featured on the poster, calling the film “masterful…an exceptional liminal thriller.” Pretty cool!
Exit 8 follows a man (Kazunari Ninomiya) trapped in an endless, sterile subway passageway as he sets out to find Exit 8. The rules of his quest are simple: do not overlook anything out of the ordinary. If you discover an anomaly, turn back immediately. If you don’t, carry on. Then leave from Exit 8. But even a single oversight will send him back to the beginning. Will he ever reach his goal and escape this infinite corridor?
We’ve released the first official clip from Exit 8. It follows a man wandering the subway in search of an exit when he hears a baby crying. Drawn toward a row of lockers, he opens one, only to be met with a baby screaming directly in his face. The sound triggers a cascade, as dozens of babies begin crying from inside the surrounding lockers. It’s chilling.
Directed by Genki Kawamura and based on the video game created by Kotake Create, the film world-premiered in the midnight section of the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it received an 8-minute standing ovation.
Head for Exit 8 when the film hits theaters on April 10th, 2026, via Neon.
