Described as “Zombieland meets Bring It On“, webtoon comic ShootAround is set to be adapted into a live-action feature via Lion Forge Entertainment and Webtoon Productions, reports Variety this morning.
Created by Susanna Nousiainen (aka, Suspu), the comic has gained a massive following, with over twenty-eight million views.
In ShootAround, “When the zombie apocalypse hits Penny Hall High, the state’s best girls’ basketball team must join forces with the boys they loathe to survive the most nightmarish scenario imaginable: 24 hours locked inside their high school with each other… and zombies. But mostly each other.”
Aiyana K. White will pen the script, based off a previous draft by Mike Dow and Devon Kelly.
Personally, I haven’t read ShootAround, but the YA zombie genre seems more popular than ever, and I’m thrilled by that. Look no further than This is Not a Test, which also released earlier this year.
Said Lionforge CEO David Steward II, “ShootAround is a fresh, high-energy take on both the zombie and teen sports genres, balancing humor and horror with a character-driven edge.”
