In a recent interview, star Brendan Fraser teased that ‘The Mummy 4’ will “go back” to what fans have come to love from the franchise.
It has been a long, long, long time coming, but The Mummy 4 is finally on the way, with most of the original cast returning. That includes star Brendan Fraser, who hasn’t appeared in a Mummy film since The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor in 2008. With the next sequel on the way, the actor is already giving a tease of what’s to come.
While appearing on “The Tonight Show” with host Jimmy Fallon, Fraser dropped some small albeit exciting tidbits about the next Mummy. “We’re gonna get the band back together. The only way to do it. So, we are going to give the audience what they have been bothering all of us for, for the last twenty-whatever years.”
Added Fraser, “I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ‘I don’t know if they are.’ Then other Mummy movies got made. But listen, what we’re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations — I should probably stop talking like this, because I don’t want to give everything away.”
Go back to the locations, you say? Whatever that means, it sure sounds like the intention is to take fans back to what we love about the Mummy films starring Fraser and Rachel Weisz…a far cry from the last few iterations that we’ve seen.
The 57-year old Fraser also discussed getting back in shape for the film, as it has been a while since he’s starred in an action flick. Check out the full interview below.
The fourth Mummy movie is directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not, Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, Scream, V/H/S, Southbound) from a screenplay by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill).
Open the tomb on The Mummy 4 when it rises in theaters on October 15th, 2027.
