Breaking: Peacock announced today that its Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, will premiere on the streamer this coming October 15, 2026.
Based on the slasher series begun by Sean S. Cunningham in 1980, Crystal Lake follows a doomed small town where camp counselors come to die. It tells the origins of the Voorhees family and leads up to the “birth” of the ultimate slasher: Jason.
Earlier this year, Peacock shared the first teaser photos from Crystal Lake, which stars Linda Cardellini as Pamela Voorhees and includes earlier versions of characters from the original film, such as Crazy Ralph (Nick Cordileone), Claudette (Danielle Kotch), and Barry (Phoenix Parnevik), along with new characters connected to the town’s history.
While Friday the 13th is typically a summer-set franchise, the writers of the 2009 remake revealed they had planned a sequel script set in winter, finally bringing Jason Voorhees into a snowy setting and painting the snow red.
Dread Central exclusively revealed that we’ll finally see Jason slashing through the snow in the Crystal Lake series. It’s unclear how this will fit into the story, but here’s hoping it’s for a Christmas episode, eggnog included.
We’ll find out this fall when Crystal Lake premieres on Peacock.
