Gillian Anderson revealed she had a panic attack while watching a scene from ‘Teenage Sex & Death at Camp Miasma’ she dubs “blood day”.
Earlier this morning, we learned that Jane Schoenbrun‘s Teenage Sex & Death at Camp Miasma had been rated R for “bloody violence, gore, sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and some language”. Well, based on the latest comments from star Gillian Anderson (“The X-Files”), it sure sounds like the camp slasher is going big on the bloodshed.
While speaking with Variety, Anderson described having a “panic attack” while watching a particular scene. “That blood day was pretty serious… just remembering the amount of liquid and how to not drown while shooting the scene… it was a lot!”
I’m sorry, did she say “blood day?” If it was enough to cause “X-Files” Scully to lose her mind, then us gorehounds are in for a treat…accompanied by what sounds like gallons and gallons of gore.
The outlet notes that “the scene in question comes towards the end of Jane Schoenbrun’s wild, hilarious and emotional psychosexual exploration of horror, fandom, identity, pleasure, trauma and awakening, the apex of a rousing crescendo of sublime, almost-magical delirium. And yes, there’s a whole lot of blood.“
Listen, I was already sold on the film. I’m a huge fan of Schoenbrun and adore the unique style they bring to the screen. This would mark the first time I’m aware of that the filmmaker has leaned heavily into gore. I’m practically drooling over here waiting to see the delirious bloodshed they’re going to deliver.
In Schoenbrun’s ode to 80s horror, “After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.”
