Guess who’s back? That would be the gang that the Scary Movie franchise began with, as the film’s official X account just reminded us in a new clip for the upcoming sixth entry that brings the group back together for all new laughs and hijinks.
From the tune of Eminem’s “Without Me” to references to Britney Spears’ “Oops!…I Did It Again”, the below teaser has the 90s/early aughts nostalgia rushing like a bloody tidal wave through my veins.
In the sixth entry of the popular horror spoof franchise, twenty-six years after outrunning a suspiciously familiar masked killer (Ghostface), the Core Four are back in the killer’s crosshairs, and no horror movie IP is safe.
Marlon Wayans (Shorty), Shawn Wayans (Ray), Anna Faris (Cindy), and Regina Hall (Brenda) reunite in Scary Movie alongside returning favorites and fresh faces to slash through reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word legacy in it, and every “final chapter” that absolutely isn’t final. Nothing is sacred. No trope survives. Every line gets crossed. The Wayans are back to cancel the Cancel Culture.
For those keeping count, here are some of the movies lampooned in Scary Movie: Terrifier 3, Weapons, Sinners, A Quiet Place, Annabelle, MA, Get Out, The Substance, and M3GAN – it even takes multiple jabs (or stabs, if you will) at the new Scream films, which is the main reason the 2000 Scary Movie is so damn good.
Paramount Pictures will release Scary Movie in theaters everywhere on June 5, 2026.
