As good as Obsession is, the film’s success rests heavily on Inde Navarrette’s performance. She elevates the material to another level and is the reason audiences aren’t just glued to the screen, but find themselves genuinely obsessed with Curry Barker’s breakout hit.
Unsurprisingly, following the film’s massive success, Navarrette has quickly become one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood and one of its most sought-after rising stars. Now, insider Jeff Sneider reports that one of her first projects following Obsession may already be taking shape.
According to the report, Navarrette is circling A24‘s Goblin, an R-rated puppet comedy from writer-director David Mikalson, a filmmaker who burst onto Hollywood’s radar after his script for the project sparked a bidding frenzy and landed at A24. Mikalson is a relative newcomer whose short films and proof-of-concept work helped generate industry buzz before the studio backed the feature, as first noted by Deadline.
If the casting comes together, Navarrette would join Skyler Gisondo, who is also reportedly attached, while Kenneth Branagh is set to voice the film’s title creature.
The project has been described as a raunchy buddy comedy that blends practical puppet effects with live action, with some comparing its tone to Ted meets E.T. The goblin itself is reportedly being brought to life as a practical puppet rather than a CGI creation, which only makes the whole thing sound even weirder.
After watching Navarrette command the screen in Obsession, it’s easy to see why filmmakers are lining up to work with her. And if Goblin ends up being her next move, it certainly won’t be the safe or predictable one.
Sneider does note, however, that Navarrette is far from confirmed for the role. Nothing has been agreed to just yet, so we’ll have to wait and see if it all comes together. Still, sounds intriguing, and we can’t wait to see Navarrette in whatever she does next.
