Official plot details have finally been unveiled for Netflix’s ‘Gears of War’ movie, following the origins of Delta Squad!
If you’re as excited for Netflix’s Gears of War movie as we are, then get even more excited, because we’ve just learned the plot details, courtesy of EW!
The outlet reports that the film will be an origin story for Delta Squad, the main infantry team of the video game franchise that the picture is based on.
Here’s the official logline: “The origin story of Delta Squad, a ragtag crew of soldiers who wage a desperate war for survival against the Locust, a race of subterranean creatures set on destroying humanity.”
David Leitch (Bullet Train) is directing the film, from a script penned by Jon Spaihts (the Dune movies).
With that team behind the film, I’m more than ready to watch Delta Squad kick Locust butt (thorax? I don’t know. I’m not a scientist).
Said Matt Booty, Xbox’s executive vice president and chief content officer, “The game really is about the bonds between teams. It’s about brotherhood at its core. When you go visit the studio, their tagline is ‘Never Fight Alone.’ So when you think about that for a dramatic narrative, it’s a pretty good starting point.”
The Gears of War game franchise was launched back in 2006 by Xbox Game Studios and Coalition. Multiple games, comics and novels later, it has become an ultra-successful franchise with plenty of lore to build from.
Netflix also previously announced plans for a Gears of War adult animated series.
Additionally, Gears of War: E-Day, the sixth game installment, lands on Xbox exclusively October 6th.
It’s a good time to be a Gears of War fan. Stay tuned to Dread for more details on the Netflix film as we learn them.
