That annual watch of Thanksgiving slasher, ‘Blood Rage’, will hit differently now, as star Louise Lasser has tragically passed away at 87.
Awful news this morning as THR reports that Louise Lasser (Blood Rage) has passed away at the age of 87.
The outlet notes that Lasser died Monday of natural causes at her home in Manhattan on the Upper East Side.
The beloved actress was known as Woody Allen’s first leading lady and the title star of the hit TV series, Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.
But for horror fans, Lasser was cherished as Maddy, the mother of twin boys (one of whom is a killer) in the Thanksgiving slasher film, Blood Rage. A struggling single mother with a drinking problem and a penchant for raiding the fridge in the middle of the night for Thanksgiving leftovers, Lasser’s portrayal of the character is iconic in genre circles. For me, she’s my Thanksgiving spirit animal. I watch Blood Rage every year. And though the film is plenty silly, Lasser’s performance is one of tragedy and grief and unrelenting horror that hits me every time.
Outside of Blood Rage, Lasser also appeared in horror films such as Frankenhooker and Wolves of Wall Street.
Lasser was a legend and loved by many. Our annual Thanksgiving watch of Blood Rage is going to feel a lot different this year. She will be greatly missed.
