There is, however, one interesting detail that gives the cameo a little more weight. Ellie’s ashes are revealed to be at the very same funeral home where the Price family has gathered following their own devastating loss. That seemingly small detail also helps establish the geography of this corner of the Evil Dead universe. Evil Dead Rise already established that the cabin and nearby lake, where the Deadite outbreak began before ultimately leading to the major car crash that set the events of that film in motion, are located in the same general area. By placing Ellie’s remains at the same funeral home featured in Burn, the filmmakers subtly reinforce that these stories are unfolding within the same regional landscape. Rather than feeling like a random cameo dropped in for fan service, the surprise appearance helps make the modern Evil Dead timeline feel a little more connected.
Could it be planting the seeds for a future movie? Maybe. The franchise has increasingly embraced standalone stories connected by the mythology of the Deadites rather than by recurring protagonists, so Ellie’s return could simply be a playful tease that leaves the door open for another appearance down the road.
One thing it almost certainly isn’t teasing is Evil Dead: Wrath. That film is expected to take the franchise in a completely different direction, making it unlikely that the post-credits scene is setting up its story. Instead, this feels more like a reminder that Ellie remains one of the franchise’s most memorable modern Deadites, and that Alyssa Sutherland could always be waiting just around the corner.
Whether the scene ultimately leads somewhere or simply exists as a fun sendoff, it’s exactly the kind of mischievous final beat that Evil Dead fans have come to love.
