Criterion is bringing some added jolts of electricity this Halloween, announcing they’re releasing an extended cut of del Toro’s Frankenstein
If you just heard some high-pitched scream rip through your neighborhood, don’t worry, that was probably me reacting to the news that Criterion is set to unleash the extended cut of Guillermo del Toro‘s Frankenstein this October! Additionally, they’ll also be releasing The Silence of the Lambs on 4K…just in time for some liver and fava beans this Halloween.
Each disc is packed with bonus material and features stunning artwork.
I’m especially curious about the extended cut of Frankenstein, weighing in at 158-minutes…to my knowledge, nearly an extra thirty minutes of footage.
In Frankenstein, Oscar Isaac plays the mad doctor who decides to play god and creates life through his Monster (played by Jacob Elordi in a stunning portrayal). When the creature escapes, though, he finds life to be miserable, and demands that Dr. Frankenstein make a bride for him or face losing everyone he loves.
And then there’s Jonathan Demme‘s award-winning adaptation of Thomas Harris‘ novel, The Silence of the Lambs. The film stars Jodie Foster as a rookie detective tasked with seeing what she can learn about the serial killer Buffalo Bill (Ted Levine) from cannibalistic prisoner, Dr. Hannibal Lecter (Anthony Hopkins).
Each film is excellent in its own way. Each comes to stunning 4K from Criterion, an early Halloween gift, you could say. The news is certainly giving me a few jolts of electricity, I’ll tell you that.
Pre-order Frankenstein and The Silence of the Lambs now. Lambs will arrive on October 20th, while Frankenstein will become available on October 27th.
