Universal Halloween Horror Nights Japan is set to debut the event’s first-ever rated 18+ haunted house, dubbed ‘Afterimage’.
Japan gets all of the coolest stuff (I dream of hang-gliding into Godzilla’s mouth on the daily). And it seems the country has another item to add to the list, as we’ve learned that Universal Studios Japan will feature the first-ever Halloween Horror Nights 18+ experience (equivalent to an R-rating)!
Wow News Today reports that the experience is called Afterimage, a “hopeless, inescapable” attraction rated for guests 18+ and requiring a waiver. Wow. Sign me up!
Afterimage is said to put guests through extreme situations of isolation and confinement as they visit a facility that studies nightmares. Described as an “abnormal space where the boundary between hallucination and reality blurs,” the house will present a “real hell” of “heinous acts that one desperately wants to escape from.”
Though there’s no mention of scare actors being allowed to touch patrons, Afterimage sure sounds like it’s reaching for an experience similar to extreme haunts. Get ready to hear reports of patrons passing out from terror during the event.
The outlet notes that a limited-time Express Pass will include guaranteed entry to Afterimage, and one-time priority access to Factory of Fear ~Zombie Tour of Despair, Jurassic Park: The Ride in the Dark, and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.
Tickets for the experience go on sale on July 27th.
Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Japan runs from September 11 until November 8th.
