TIFF Just Announced World Premieres for ‘Crystal Lake’, ‘Carrie’, and Sea Monster Series ‘Below’

The Toronto International Film Festival is bringing horror to the small screen in a big way this year.

TIFF has unveiled its 2026 Primetime lineup, and horror fans have three major reasons to pay attention. The festival will host the World Premieres of Crystal Lake, Mike Flanagan‘s highly anticipated Carrie series, and the creature feature Below.

Opening this year’s Primetime program is Below, a six-episode thriller from creator Jesse McKeown starring Mackenzie Davis, Charlie Heaton, and Josh Hartnett. The series follows a small Newfoundland town that comes under siege by a mysterious sea creature, kicking off the television lineup with what sounds like a perfect blend of coastal horror and suspense.

Also making its World Premiere is Carrie, Mike Flanagan‘s new adaptation of Stephen King‘s classic novel. Flanagan’s “bold and timely reimagining” stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White, a lonely high school outcast who has spent her life isolated under the thumb of her domineering mother. After the sudden death of her father, Carrie is thrust into public high school, where relentless bullying, a community-shaking scandal, and the emergence of terrifying telekinetic abilities change her life forever.

Rounding out the genre offerings is Crystal Lake, the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series that will give TIFF audiences an early look before its streaming debut.

Based on the slasher series begun by Sean S. Cunningham in 1980, the eight-episode, 70s-set series follows a doomed small town where camp counselors come to die. It tells the origins of the Voorhees family and leads up to the “birth” of the ultimate slasher: Jason.
