The Toronto International Film Festival and New York Film Festival both unveiled exciting additions to their 2026 lineups this week, with two iconic genre films taking center stage.
Leading the way for horror fans is Ken Russell’s long-controversial masterpiece The Devils, which will receive a spectacular presentation at TIFF as part of the festival’s Classics programme. The screening will showcase the newly restored 4K director’s cut of Russell’s 1971 film, starring Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave, with production design by Derek Jarman. The politically charged religious horror has long been regarded as one of the greatest and most controversial films ever made, making its TIFF presentation one of the festival’s must-see repertory events.
Meanwhile, monster movie fans have something to celebrate in New York.
The New York Film Festival has announced that Godzilla Minus Zero will screen as the Spotlight Gala selection during the festival’s 64th edition on September 26. Director Takashi Yamazaki will attend the event alongside members of the cast and crew for the film’s festival presentation.
The announcements continue a strong year for repertory and genre cinema on the festival circuit, with both TIFF and NYFF giving horror and kaiju fans plenty to look forward to this September.
