Kuala Lumpur-based genre outfit Abnormal Studios has acquired worldwide international sales rights to Ali & Ben’s Spicy Meats, a Malaysian cannibal black comedy-horror from sibling filmmakers Iskander Azizuddin and Feisal Azizuddin, reports Variety.
The film centers on two down-on-their-luck friends who accidentally create a wildly successful spicy beef jerky recipe—with one distinctly human ingredient. As the business takes off, so do their fortunes, while their moral compasses spiral out of control.
Amir Nafis leads the cast alongside Syazani Zikry and Bella Imani. Original hand-drawn illustrations by Gladys Lee and Qistina Ishak are featured throughout the film as visual storytelling elements.
“I wanted to tell a story that explores how desperation warps ordinary people, and how ambition often wears a friendly face, and that we are another person’s dish in this complex, twisted society we live in,” said co-director Feisal Azizuddin.
The company plans to launch the film at the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) in Busan this October.
