One of horror’s longest-running franchises may finally be headed back to the big screen.
According to a quote attributed to Charles Band’s latest book that has begun circulating online, Blumhouse has secured an option to develop a new Puppet Master reboot, with the deal potentially extending beyond a feature film.
The quote, which was first brought to our attention via Brain Mutant on Facebook and is reportedly taken directly from Band’s new book, reads:
“We finally closed a deal with Blumhouse, the biggest name in what’s left of the horror world. It was a lucrative option deal for them to make a big reboot of Puppet Master. A movie, yes, and possibly a series as well. Best of all, I get to hold on to all my Puppet Master stuff—the movies and the merch. Honestly, I can’t wait to see what they come up with.”
If accurate, the wording is notable.
Rather than suggesting Blumhouse has outright acquired the franchise, Band describes the agreement as an option deal, meaning the studio has the opportunity to develop the property while it seeks financing, talent, and distribution. Band also indicates that he retains ownership of the existing films and merchandising rights.
