As if going to the dentist wasn’t already terrifying enough.
Sony Pictures is having some fun with the marketing for Insidious: Out of the Further, releasing a new prank video that turns an ordinary dental cleaning into a full-blown nightmare from The Further.
The setup is a play on one of the stranger scares featured prominently in the promos, which involves some seriously demonic dental work. For the prank, unsuspecting people arrive for what they believe is a routine cleaning, only to discover that the person hovering over their mouths isn’t exactly their dentist.
Cue the screaming.
It’s a simple gag, but watching people completely lose their shit once they realize what’s standing over them makes for a pretty great promotional video. It also cleverly flips the dental sequence from the movie, putting the demon on the other side of the chair.
Amelia Eve stars as Gemma, a young mother who discovers she can travel into The Further, only to learn that the demons can use her ability as a doorway into reality. Lin Shaye also returns as franchise favorite Elise Rainier.
Directed by Jacob Chase (Come Play), Insidious: Out of the Further opens in theaters August 21.
