Fantastic Fest is returning to Austin, Texas, this fall, taking over the Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar from September 17-24, 2026. As always, the festival is packed with world premieres, major genre releases, and the kind of completely unexpected discoveries that make it one of our favorite places to find what’s next in horror.
We dug through this year’s massive lineup and pulled out a handful of films we’re particularly excited about, including the World Premiere of Posthumous.
Directed by Josh Tanner, the Australian horror film begins with an especially creepy hook involving old VHS tapes.
Zoe returns home to her estranged father and begins watching birthday recordings left behind by her deceased mother. What initially offers a connection to the mother she lost instead leads Zoe toward an occult ritual and the realization that everything she was told about her mother’s death may have been a lie.
VHS tapes and an occult mystery? Say no more.
