Billy Zane and Others Cast in 1983-Set Creature Feature ‘Wekiwa’

Billy Zane (pictured above in the absolute banger, Demon Knight), has been cast in the creature feature Wekiwa, reports Deadline.

Also cast are Kevin Chapman (Person of Interest) and C.S. Lee (Dexter).

They join Alex Trumble, Oliver Wyman, Ty Neckar, Tyler Steelman, Xhaania Wright and Caroline Jane West.

Here’s the official synopsis: “Summer, 1983. A showman (Trumble) has sunk every dollar he has into a resort on a Florida island the Seminole have warned about for three hundred years. A British documentary director (Zane) arrives with four beautiful young performers (Wright, West, Wyman, Neckar) to shoot the commercial that will save him. A county marine biologist arrives to find out what is wrong with the lagoon. Nobody on that island will say what is in the water. By Sunday, every one of them will wish they had.”

Did we learn nothing from the Jaws mayor? Come on, people!

Richard L. Anderson wrote/directed the film. Anderson has mostly worked in sound, having been a part of the sound department for films like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Poltergeist.

Producers are Salomé Breziner and Scott Rosenfelt.

Said Breziner and Rosenfelt, “We wanted the kind of film that sends an audience out grinning and a little afraid of the water. Richard has spent forty years teaching audiences to believe in things they hear before they ever see them. That instinct is all over this film.”

Production is set to begin this September in the Orlando area.
