London-Set Stephen King Story ‘Crouch End’ Getting a Series Adaptation from Prime Video
The Stephen King train keeps on rolling, as Prime Video has announced a series adaptation of the author’s Lond-set tale, ‘Crouch End’.
London’s calling, and the Stephen King train isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. Variety reports that Prime Video will adapt the master of horror’s short story, Crouch End, into a TV series.
Here’s the official synopsis: “London never sleeps deeply, and its dreams are uneasy. When global movie star Doris Freeman bursts into a London police station claiming that strange phenomena are behind the disappearance of her husband, police inspector Ted Vetter must investigate whether she’s telling the truth, whether she could be a murderer, or whether there’s something even more chilling at play.”
As the outlet notes, the story was originally published in 1980 in New Tales of the Cthulhi Mythos and later appeared in King’s Nightmares & Dreamscapes collection.
Paul Tomalin (Bodies) is writing the adaptation, to be directed by Tom Shankland (2008s The Children).
Crouch End will be a six-part limited series.
The adaptation continues a boom that King’s work has seen lately. Multiple adaptations of the author’s stories have been announced recently, whether it be a new Desperation, Season 2 of Welcome to Derry, Mister Yummy, Mike Flanagan’s The Mist, and a new take on The Dark Tower. The list goes on.
I’m especially curious with Shankland behind the project. His 2008 horror pic The Children chilled me to the bone as a story about kids who suddenly turn on adults. Not an original story, but executed with a cold brutality that shows a director unafraid of taking risks.
Producers are Mammoth Screen and Fifth Season. Executive producers include Tomalin, Shankland, Damien Timmer, Rebecca Keane and Ben Irving.

Having the honour to adapt it with the incredible team at Mammoth, Fifth Season and Amazon alongside director Tom Shankland is a dream come true. I couldn’t be more excited to bring this thrilling tale to the screen.”
